My husband Steve and I purchased a new home almost three
years ago and it felt like we were missing something. We decided to look at
getting a dog and we knew we wanted to get a bigger dog. After much research
and pondering we decided on a Belgian Malinois, so we registered with the ABMC
(American Belgian Malinois Club).
We met two people from the ABMC and they informed us that they were two Mali’s available at a training facility in Cave Creek. So the next day we called Partners Animal Training and asked if they still had the Malinois’ and we were pleased to hear, “Yes!”
We went up there the very next Saturday and we met Pfister and her brother to see if we wanted to adopt either one. It was love at first sight! So after some discussion we decided she was going to be ours, but part of the contract stated that we had to take a six week obedience class with her.
Pfister spent her time with a wonderful foster mommy until we adopted her. Lindsay spent countless hours working with her and caring for her. But at the time Lindsay was living with her parents and they told her she could not have any more animals. Lindsay would have loved to have kept Pfister but it was not feasible. So at the age of 17 months Pfister came to live in her forever home with us.
Her first few weeks at home were interesting; she did not
take to Steve right away. She seemed to gravitate to her mom more and followed
mommy EVERYWHERE! But after a few weeks she learned that daddy was not so bad.
After we finished our first six weeks of obedience class we decided to continue the obedience to level 2 at the training facility. When we completed the level 2 obedience she was working well off-leash and we wanted to give her a job to keep her busy.
The training facility offered agility classes so we decided
to enroll Pfister in agility to see how she liked it. She LOVED it and caught
on right away. We trained with them for almost a year but there was one thing
Pfister and I could not get over; she was a Velcro-dog.
In November 2007 we stopped training and took a break and then in the spring of 2008 we started looking for an agility group to join again, one closer to home. But unfortunately there were no groups with openings.
So we decided to look at flyball and that was when we came across the Blazin’ K9s website. And there it was, an all call for anyone interested in the first training class offered by Blazin’ K9s. We sent an email and anxiously awaited a reply, hoping it would say that they still had a spot for Pfister. We were excited to receive the reply back and to know that we were onto our next adventure!
